f) Type a name for the shared folder in the 'Share Name' box, or accept the default.
g) (Optional) Add any comments to other users in the 'Comments' box.
h) Configure sharing of the folder based on either share-level or user-level access:
1] If the computer is configured for share-level access:
NOTE: Share-level access permits access to the shared folder by specifying a password to access the shared resource.
a] In the 'Type of Access' group, select a radio button representing the type of access users have to the shared resource.
NOTE: Read-Only permits users to be able to open the files in the shared folder, but prevents them from modifying the files. Full access permits the user to change the contents of the files in the shared folder. You can specify separate passwords for 'Read-Only' and 'Full' access if you want some users to be able to change files and others to only be able to read them.
b] Do one or both of the following in the 'Passwords' group, depending on which radio button you selected in step 8)h)1]a]:
NOTE: If either the 'Read-Only' or the 'Full' radio button was selected in step 8)h)1]a], then the other box appears dimmed. If the 'Depends on Password' radio button was selected, then you can type a password in both boxes. Use different passwords for the two.
1} Type a password in the 'Read-Only Password' box.
2} Type a password in the 'Full Access Password' box.
2] If the computer is configured for user-level access:
NOTE: User-level access permits you to add users from a workgroup or domain to the list of users who can access the shared folder, and to specify the access rights of each user. The logon to the domain or workgroup is used to authenticate the user instead of a password to the share.
a] Click 'Add...'. (The 'Add Users' dialog box appears.)
User list
NOTE: The domain or workgroup of the user list is specified on the 'Access Control' tabbed page of the 'Network' dialog box, in 'Control Panel'.
b] Select the user and the type of access:
1} To grant a user read-only access to the shared resource, select the user, and click 'Read-Only'.
2} To grant a user full access to the shared resource, select the user, and click 'Full Access'.
3} To customize the type of user access to the share:
a} Select the user, and click 'Custom'.
Custom access
b} Select the check box(es) of the access right(s) you want to grant that user.
c} Click 'OK'. (The 'Change Access Rights' dialog box closes.)
